Produced between 2020 and 2023 the Ferrari F8 Spider was heralded as an instant classic and a pinnacle for the V8 platform.
The Ferrari F8 series debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the Ferrari 488 GTB, continuing Ferrari’s transition into turbocharged mid-engine supercars that began with the 488. The F8 Tributo pays homage to Ferrari’s iconic V8 legacy, embodying over four decades of engineering evolution since the first mid-engine V8, the 308 GTB. Named “Tributo” to celebrate the success of Ferrari’s V8 engines, the F8 series includes both a coupe (F8 Tributo) and a convertible (F8 Spider) variant.
Ferrari’s 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine used in the F8 models won the “International Engine of the Year” award multiple times, recognized for its blend of immense power, efficiency, and responsiveness. The F8 was seen as a trnasition between the brand’s past and future, as Ferrari moved toward hybrid and electric powertrains while still holding onto the legacy of one of its most celebrated engines.
Ferrari F8 Spider
Introduced shortly after the Tributo, the F8 Spider offered the same thrilling performance but with the added experience of al fresco motoring. Equipped with Ferrari’s retractable hardtop, which opens or closes in 14 seconds at speeds up to 28 mph, the F8 Spider combined Ferrari’s engineering prowess with luxurious versatility.
While the Spider’s top-down driving adds slightly to its weight, it retains nearly identical performance figures to the Tributo, accelerating from 0-60 mph in around 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 211 mph. Ferrari worked meticulously to maintain structural rigidity and aerodynamic efficiency in the Spider, ensuring it retains the coupe’s precision handling and speed.
