General description of Make and/or Model of this Motorcar:
Generic model information
Debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the new 812 Superfast was marketed by Ferrari as "the fastest and most powerful Ferrari yet" and immediately adopted the mantle of the front engine Ferrari V12 GT flagship. Media reviews suggested the "Superfast" was probably too fast for road use...Predictably Ferrari ignored these heretical suggestions and 4 years later introduced the Competizione model - following in the footsteps of the preceeding 599 GTO and F12 tdf. Limited to a production of 999 Coupes and 599 Apertas - this track-focused model featured a 6.5 litre engine numerous changes aimed at reducing friction and reciprocating mass, with lighter internals, including titanium rods which allowed for a heady 9,500 rpm rev limit which was a phenomenal number for a big V12. The engine now produced 819 BHP which was harnessed to a quick shifting 7 speed dual clutch transmission. The external changes on the body were extensive with aero refinements on more or less every panel. However the most distinctive feature of the model was the replacement of the rear windscreen with a solid panel with sculpted all-aluminium surface upon which vortex generators on the upper surface boosted the car’s aerodynamic efficiency - specifically air flow to the rear spoiler. A sophisticated rear wheel steering system called Virtual Short Wheelbase, enabled the rear wheels to steer independently of each other and further added stability for direction changes and braking.
The ultimate evolution of the front-engine Ferrari V12 - predictably the model was sold out upon launch. Whereas as many run-out models feature minor cosmetic changes and small changes, the extensive aero and cooling refinements on the bodywork of the 812 Competizione visually conveyed the no-compromise purposeful nature of the car and these modifications significantly improved performance, with a 30% increase in front downforce and a 38kg weight reduction over the Superfast. In fact the Competizione recorded a lap time 1.5 seconds quicker at the Ferrari test track over the 812 Superfast upon which it was based and straight line figures of a top speed of 211 mph, 0-60 in 2.85 seconds and 0-125 mph in 7.5 seconds.
The car was sold out when new and reviews confirmed the legendary status of the model. A collector Ferrari where the driving experience genuinely justifies the hype - an instant classic.
