General description of Make and/or Model of this Motorcar:

The last of revered 997 series - with more 993 accents than 996 - this model blended strong visual references to the iconic 911 classic shape with nigh on 500 brake horsepower and a sophisticated aero package. At the time this was projected to be the last manual gear box RS and the limited edition of 600 examples made sold out instantly.

The 4.0 RS is seen as one of the best cars Porsche has ever created and its Mezger engine is one of the reasons why. This iteration of the flat-six overhead-camshaft engine was a design masterpiece and whilst all other 911s adopted a new and less robust design, the GT cars stuck with the Mezger. Having proven itself by winning Le Mans in the 911 GT1-98, the engine was proving to be unbreakable, and sounded fantastic. Even today the latest 4.0 naturally aspirated RS engines only produce another 30 horsepower more 14 years later!! Harnessed to a 6 speed manual gearbox this car represented an analogue driving experience high water mark for Porsche.

The 4.0 litre run out RS model was a further 22lb lighter than the preceeding "standard" 997 3.8 RS and really justified the RS soubriquet. This model is widely acknowledged as one of the best 911 RS models made and nowadays features in all major Porsche collections.
