Exact Description of this Specific Motorcar

Finished in Amethyst with black/purple leather interior, this beautiful lightweight example was first registered on 10th March 1992 by Porsche Stuttgart. Imported into the UK by marque specialists Autofarm in June 1997, the car was sold to one Alex Fenton in July 1997 at 26,482 kilometres, passing to Ed Pilnik in January 1999 at 47,400 kilometres. An MPH speedometer was fitted by Ruf UK on 5th May 1999 at 52,542 kilometres (32,649 miles). The next owner acquired the Porsche on 17th August 2000 at 47,000 miles and used the car fairly regularly until around 8 years ago, since when it has mostly been laid up in storage, with annual oil changes and inspections. Peter Tognola looked after the Porsche for the this owner, and the corresponding service history is available. The car has had a couple of owners since but has been unused save for annual MOT visit.

This RS rides on 17-inch five-spoke rare RS magnesium alloy wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero tyres. Inside, there are black leather-trimmed bucket seats with shades of purple leather inserts. The dashboard features a Blaupunkt cassette sound system with Alpine speakers. The car features its period-correct lightweight door cards with fabric pull straps. All the original owner’s manuals, stamped service book, space-saver spare wheel, tool kit, and pump accompany the car, along with numerous maintenance invoices.

A wonderful opportunity to acquire a relatively little-used example of this very rare and collectible Porsche RS model, ready for a new custodian.

General description of Make and/or Model of this Motorcar:

Like its illustrious forebears, the legendary 2.7 and 3.0-litre RS and RSR 'homologation specials' of the 1970s, the type 964 Carrera RS was a lightweight variant based on the "Carrera Cup".

Based on the 'Carrera Cup' competition car and sold in Europe only, there was a lower-specification "RS America" for the US market. There was also a Touring version that kept most of the road equipment fitted to the standard Carrera.

The Carrera RS retained the stock 3.6-litre engine, albeit boosted in maximum output to 260bhp and equipped with a lightened flywheel for improved response. The G50/10 five-speed transmission featured closer ratios, an asymmetrical limited-slip differential and steel synchromesh, while the suspension was lowered and stiffened. For the lightweight version, the interior was stripped out completely and the power steering, power windows and seats, rear seats, air conditioning, cruise control, sound deadening material and stereo system removed. Two lightweight racing bucket seats were fitted instead.

The lightweight's front bonnet was made of aluminium and the chassis was seam welded, while the side windows were made from thinner and lighter glass. Rounding off this radical exercise in weight reduction, the Carrera RS was equipped with 17" Cup magnesium wheels. The result was a total weight saving of around 150kg compared to the Carrera 2, transforming the RS into a faster, more agile and responsive car. Excluding America and RSR variants, only 2,051 units of the Type 964 Carrera RS were produced.

Today these are amongst the most sought after analogue Porsche RS models and highly prized amongst collectors.
