General description of Make and/or Model of this Motorcar:
The successor to the legendary Dino V6 model, the Dino 308 GT4 was introduced in 1973 with bold Bertone designed wedge shaped styling. A mid-engined 2+2, the V8 powered model was produced between 1973 to 1980.
The Dino 308 GT4 was marketed as a Dino to differentiate from Ferrari V12 models until May 1976, when the Dino badge was replaced with Ferrari badging. The 308 enjoyed a production run of 2,826 and as such was commercially successful for Ferrari.
There were two series of 308 GT4, with earlier cars featured a twin distributor engine and foglamps mounted in the front valance. Later cars had a single distributor engine, with foglamps mounted behind the front grille.
The GT4 was powered by a 2.9 V8 which was mounted transversally integrally joined with the 5-speed transaxle gearbox. Fuelling by quad Weber 40 DCNF carburettors resulted in a redline at a heady 7700 rpm and glorious induction noise provides a stirring sound track. The handling is particularly reverred on the GT4 with many saying it is more engaging and progressive than the better known GTB models.
Today the groundbreaking styling of the first Ferrari penned by Bertone has become really appreciated and as the value of the cars have increasingly justified proper restoration and preservation, good examples have become highly sought after.
